Fire Risk Assessment Qualification Guide

How Are Fire Risk Assessment Qualifications Assessed?

ProQual fire risk assessment qualifications are assessed through portfolios of evidence rather than a single traditional final examination. Level 4 also includes competency-based practical assessment.

Portfolio assessment

How assessment works

Learners produce evidence showing that the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria have been met. Evidence may include written work, reports, questioning, professional discussion and practical material agreed with the assessor.

Portfolio does not mean “no assessment”

Evidence must be authentic, sufficient, current and relevant. Watching lessons alone is not enough to achieve the qualification.

Level 4 evidence stack

What practical evidence may include

1

Assessment work

Candidate-produced fire risk assessments, reports and action plans.

2

Observation

Assessor observation of practical activity or permitted simulation.

3

Supporting evidence

Photographs, video and building information where appropriate.

4

Professional discussion

Structured exploration of decisions, judgement and underpinning knowledge.

Authentic evidence

Your portfolio must be your own work

AI may support learning and research when used responsibly, but AI-generated assessment evidence cannot be submitted as the learner's own work. Witness testimony must be evaluated alongside other evidence.

Previous experience

Can existing experience count?

Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered where previous achievement or experience provides valid, authentic, current and sufficient evidence. It is not an automatic exemption; any gaps must still be assessed.
