Consider Level 6 when

Consider Level 7 when
You influence governance or strategy, lead major programmes and have senior strategic evidence.
Can you enter directly?
Level 3 is not a formal prerequisite for Level 6, nor Level 6 for Level 7. Suitability, experience and evidence determine the route.

What qualification should I take to start environmental management?
The ProQual Level 3 Award provides a regulated foundation for people developing environmental-management knowledge.
Must I complete Level 3 before Level 6?
No formal prerequisite is specified. Your role, knowledge, experience and evidence access should determine suitability.
Must I complete Level 6 before Level 7?
No formal prerequisite is specified, but SHEC Learning® must confirm that your responsibilities and evidence suit strategic Level 7 study.
Are Level 6 or Level 7 degrees or NVQs?
No. They are regulated ProQual diplomas. Level 6 is not a university degree and Level 7 is not a master’s degree.
Can health and safety professionals move into environmental management?
Yes. They often have valuable transferable skills, but environmental and sustainability competence must still be developed specifically.
Should everyone progress to Level 7?
No. Progression should follow actual role and responsibility rather than qualification level alone.
Does Level 7 automatically give me CEnv?
No. Chartered Environmentalist registration is a separate professional process.
What is best for a Sustainability Manager?
Level 6 can suit practitioner and management development; Level 7 is aimed at more strategic environmental leadership.
