Level 6 or Level 7 demonstrates achievement against defined qualification outcomes and criteria.
See how environmental qualifications can support professional progression without confusing qualification achievement, membership and chartered registration.
Level 6 or Level 7 demonstrates achievement against defined qualification outcomes and criteria.
MCIOB and ISEP membership recognise standing within a profession under the body’s own requirements.
CEnv and REnvP are assessed professional registrations awarded through licensed professional bodies.
MCIOB is Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building. It is a construction-management designation, not an environmental qualification.
CIOB assesses the applicant’s exact qualification, construction-management experience and pathway. An environmental qualification alone does not demonstrate construction-management competence.
Eligible applicants progress through the relevant CIOB route and demonstrate construction-management knowledge, experience and competence through Professional Review.
CEnv is overseen by the Society for the Environment and awarded through its Licensed Members. Applicants demonstrate the required knowledge, experience and competences through the chosen professional body.
Apply environmental knowledge and understanding to advance sustainability.
Lead sustainable management and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Meet conduct, professional standards and continuing professional development expectations.
CIOB is a SocEnv Licensed Member. Its current CEnv route requires the applicant to be MCIOB or FCIOB and to have worked on an environmental-sustainability project, followed by written application and professional interview.
Professionals outside construction should consider a SocEnv Licensed Member aligned with their discipline. ISEP offers competency-based membership routes, including Full membership and CEnv assessment.

Registered Environmental Practitioner can suit professionals demonstrating practitioner-level environmental competence who are not yet ready for CEnv, or for whom practitioner registration is the better long-term fit.
Professional members and registrants must maintain relevant CPD and comply with their body’s professional conduct requirements.
Membership, registration and CPD rules can change. Confirm the latest requirements directly with the relevant professional body before applying.
No. MCIOB is awarded separately by CIOB after the applicant meets the relevant pathway, experience and Professional Review requirements.
No. CEnv is a separate professional registration assessed through a Society for the Environment Licensed Member.
Potentially, depending on the CIOB pathway, your construction-management experience and CIOB’s assessment of your professional profile.
It can support professional development, but it does not automatically satisfy CEnv eligibility or competence requirements.
Only when applying through CIOB. Other SocEnv Licensed Members use their own appropriate membership requirements.
No. CIOB currently permits both MCIOB and FCIOB members to apply, subject to the other requirements.
Applicants demonstrate environmental knowledge, experience and competence through written evidence and professional review under the relevant Licensed Member.
No. It is an RQF Level 7 diploma, not a university master’s degree.
REnvP is competence-based registration for practitioner-level environmental professionals and may support later progression towards CEnv.
Consider a SocEnv Licensed Member aligned with your environmental or sustainability discipline rather than assuming CIOB is the correct route.
SHEC Learning® can help you select the qualification that supports your development while keeping professional-body eligibility and assessment clearly separate.
